WOLWEKLOOF 4X4 TRAIL

2015-11-09

WHAT?

A 73-hectare farm that was once a private hunting reserve for Paul Kruger. The 4x4 trail officially opened less than a year ago. There’s also a 4x4 training academy on site.

WHY?

It’s only 35km east of Pretoria, making it the ideal weekend getaway! However, once you’re there, you’ll be surrounded by grass-covered hilltops, incredible views, a wide variety of game, and some of the best 4x4 granite rock-crawling available. You’ll also be amazed at how often the trail’s scenery changes; there’s even a short wetland area that can get boggy during the summer months.

WHERE?

Travel on the N4 and take the Donkerhoek turnoff. Turn right onto the old Bronkhorstspruit road. After approximately 4km, take the Casablanca turnoff onto a gravel track. Follow the signs that say Trompie Off-road Training and Adventures.

WHEN?

The route can be driven all year round.

HOW?

The first obstacle is a 300-metre stretch of granite rock known as Apies. This clambering gradient offers chunks of rock, sharp steps and mean axle-twisters.  You’ll have no trouble finding traction on the slope, but take care through Apies’ many tight turns and sharp switchbacks. If you’re not big on grade-4 hurdles, you can bypass many of Wolwekloof’s challenging sections.
