ARE COOPER TYRES WARRANTIED FOR OFF-ROAD USE?
2023-06-01
In addition to Cooper’s 10-year manufacturer warranty, TyreLife Solutions – the wholesale distributor of Cooper Tires in Southern Africa – provides an entirely FREE mileage guarantee and road-hazard protection plan on all Cooper products.
We offer this service – separate from the manufacturer – because we know the tyres can achieve incredible mileage if maintained correctly.
We also want to provide extra value and security in South Africa, where our roads are rapidly deteriorating, and potholes are a constant threat.
The above warranty programme is one-of-a-kind in South Africa, not just because of its comprehensiveness but because it also includes off-road use. However, the road-hazard warranty does NOT include underinflation and/or poor maintenance habits.
Find tyres for your vehicle here and buy them direct from the distributor.
PROS AND CONS OF UNDERINFLATION
If you’re an active off-road enthusiast, the chances are you deflate your tyres for added traction and comfort.
Of course, there’s no denying the performance advantages of deflating one’s tyres off-road; however, because pneumatic tyres are not designed for deflated applications, it’s a risk every off-roader has to weigh up personally.
Part of that risk includes...
· Pinching, slicing and punctures due to sidewall bulge
· Heat degeneration due to low pressures and friction
· Weakening of the rubber compound – an ongoing silent killer
· Accelerated tread wear due to underinflation and poor maintenance
· Sidewall stress seams and cracks
As fellow off-road enthusiasts (who also deflate their tyres), we recognise that many Cooper owners deflate when venturing off-road. However, our ability to cover the damages (related to underinflation) has less to do with T&Cs and more to do with the boundaries of tyre engineering.
Unfortunately, current tyre technology doesn’t allow for deflated use, which is true of all pneumatic tyres, on- or off-road. The more air is removed, the more force and damage is transferred to the tyre.
It’s up to you to decide if the risk of tyre damage is worth the reward of traction and comfort. On that note, if your off-road adventures demand maximum traction, here are some tips to mitigate your tyre risk... READ NEXT: "HOW TO REDUCE THE RISKS OF TYRE DEFLATION".
